Richard Moule

 

Bio

 

Richard Moule is a journalist, broadcaster, educator and musician who has been involved in experimental and improvised music for more than 15 years.

As a freelance music writer for the past decade and a half, he has interviewed and reviewed global and Canadian experimental and free jazz artists for American publications and websites like Grooves, Signal To Noise and Perfect Sound Forever, and Canadian magazines like Musicworks and Exclaim.

In these capacities, he has developed a considerable knowledge about free jazz, improvised and experimental music, and established contacts and networks within the Canadian, U.S. and European music communities.

 

As a radio broadcaster, Mr. Moule has been involved in campus and community radio for more than 25 years. He currently hosts a weekly radio show, Beyond the Beyond, on CHRW 94.9 FM, Radio Western. The show is devoted to exploring the realms of free improvisation, modern classical and electro-acoustic composition, and experimental music.

As a musician, Mr. Moule composes soundscapes on Digital Audio Software that he releases under the moniker, Gesumm. He also improvises on prepared violin and effects. He has performed and collaborated with the likes of the Nihilist Spasm Band, free saxophonist Eric Stach, jazz percussionist Bernie Koenig and Japanese noise musician Jojo Hiroshige, among others.

He is current collaborating with composer Chris Meloche in the improvised soundscape duo The Transmorphous Sound Ensemble.
